G.O.D. Walk

Since 2004, Casa Esperanza (House of Hope) Children's Home has been caring for orphaned, abused and vulnerable children in Guatemala. Children are handed over by the courts and many are put under permanent guardianship until they become adults. The home provides food, shelter, clothing, education, medical/dental care, counseling, legal fees, in custody situations, and a home where they can grow up in a safe, loving atmosphere. Casa Esperanza can house up to 50 children and rescue 10 children temporarily until a safe alternate home can be found and presently there are 38 children in Casa Esperanza. Primary care is provided by 12 full-time Guatemalan house parents and support staff. Casa Esperanza provides these children with a hope for the future and is dedicated to see children restored to become the future leaders in their generation.
(A second home, Casa de Alabbanza is opening Summer 2010, near Guatemala City)
Due to the great need of children in the nations that Fe Viva serves in, the G.O.D. Walk was birthed.
The first G.O.D. Walk was held in Kingston, ON. in 2005, in response to a challenge to do more for children in crisis in developing nations, especially Guatemala. This event helped raise funds and bring awareness of the plight of children around the world. In 2009, three G.O.D. Walks were held in Canada: Kingston, ON, Spruce Grove, AB and Kelowna, B.C.
In 2010 the G.O.D. Walk is expanding to more locations across Canada, with the national walk day being Saturday, September 25.
The vision of the G.O.D. Walk is to:
1. Help orphaned, abused and vulnerable children in Guatemala, Nicaragua and Sudan.
2. Provide an opportunity for people to help impoverished children in another country and give them a chance to fulfill their destiny.
3. Help individuals learn more about the world they live in.
4. Have a fun-filled family day.
