Opening Letter
CASA ESPERANZA
From the Directors, Steven & Patricia Peters
As the directors of Casa Esperanza, we rely on established protocols & guidelines to effectively run our children’s home. These help our staff, part-time and full-time volunteers and visitors who interact with the children in various capacities of ministry. Casa Esperanza is not an institution. It is a home where the children feel safe, secure and loved. With the irregular flow of people visiting Casa Esperanza, it becomes important to set limits and boundaries for guests to follow, to protect the ‘family’ of children and their daily routine of school, chores, play time, devotions and bedtime. We have a great team working with the children; they pour their lives into each one, patiently praying through challenging behavior, exhausting times of illness, and difficult days in Court, but we have faith that in time God will bring healing and freedom in every area of their lives. Thank you for respecting our rules and guidelines while you are here visiting our ‘family’.
Most of our children have come from homes of abuse, rejection, neglect and abandonment, so we are concerned with outside interaction and dialogue that may include promises, gifts, treats and attitudes. Once our children enter Casa Esperanza, they are no longer “poor orphaned children.” The children enter a new life, blessed because of Jesus; they become part of a love network of people who help impact their lives by demonstrating the love of God in every area. The children no longer need to feel alone or afraid, rejected or abandoned; instead they experience love and care by many in the Family of God. Along with a good education, healthy diet, medical and dental care, they grow up strong and with every opportunity to break free from a cycle of poverty.
Patricia and I are blessed and honored to be entrusted with this ministry. Thank you for your desire to come and serve here and for those who support this work.
Words of encouragement:
Love works. It is life’s most powerful motivator and has far greater depth and meaning than most people realize. It always does what is best for others and can empower us to face the greatest of problems. Love changes our motivation for living. Relationships become meaningful with it. Although love is communicated in a number of ways, our words often reflect the condition of our heart. This truth has challenged us every day here in Guatemala, as directors and as Christians. Yes, our attitudes and actions speak louder than words, but we do have the power to tear down or build up with the words that come from our mouth. Our children are always watching. Please pray for the Joy of the Lord to reign and overflow in all of our hearts…to love, strive for unity & harmony and help impact the lives of children wherever we are, all over the world. These children are God’s children, and they are the future generation to carry the Glory of the Lord to the Nations. Thank you and blessings on you as we face these challenges together as a team in prayer and through our works & deeds in Jesus Name. Amen
