"Friends of Sudan"
Recently Fe Viva was asked by a Sudanese friend, Garang Athaing, to visit Sudan. Garang wanted us to see firsthand the immense need and many problems facing Sudan. Garang is the founder and president of "Friends of Sudan" Foundation. Upon seeing Sudan's plight firsthand, Fe Viva has accepted the challenge to officially partner with Garang and the "Friends of Sudan" Foundation and help establish a permanent training and education center in Aweil, Sudan. This is an area of over one million inhabitants. Fe Viva will be involved with the operations of this project and with the distribution of funds received for this project.
Garang and Kim Weiler met with the Governor of Southern Sudan in September 2006. The Governor pleaded for help with the great need of building the country's infrastructure. He gave his full support to build and operate schools, medical clinics, training centers, etc. throughout Southern Sudan. He said their greatest needs include infrastructure: education for the people, medical care for the sick and adequate housing and loving car for their many orphaned children.
Fe Viva's goal is to raise adequate financial support by November 2008, so that building the multi-functional facility may begin. A Fe Viva Team returns to Sudan in October 2008 bringing a team of teachers, builders, medical personnel, and funding.
