Sudan - June 2008 Update

Greetings to you all from Fe Viva World Missions!

It’s been over six months since we officially began our partnership with the “Friends of Sudan” last December. Phase One of the project was to build a medical dispensary to help meet the overwhelming medical needs of the people in the area. The community of Wanjok, in the province of Aweil, has approximately 20,000 people. However the dispensary will also benefit thousands more that live in the surrounding areas. In December Kim and the team visited the one hospital in the area, which has one doctor, three nurses and no supplies! This emphasized the incredible need for medicines and facilities and staff.

We are pleased to report that as of April the new clinic was ready for the roof to be built. This is a testimony to God’s grace and provision, as there are few passable roads into the area and everything has to be brought in from neighboring countries or Khartoum in the north. This year the rains came early, making transport an even greater challenge. Garang reported that with the rains came a large number of frogs and scorpions. Life is difficult. Construction is difficult.

The container arrived at the beginning of April, which brought generators, clothing, food, medical equipment, agricultural tools, and construction tools. The entire village attended the arrival of the container. This is the first private container to arrive into this war torn area. Plans are already underway to send one or two more containers to arrive before the end of 2008. Our goal is to include a tractor for agricultural purposes and building supplies for the ongoing projects. Since this is the only reliable way of getting supplies into the area, it becomes the most cost effective way of transport using 40' containers. We rely on our partners to help with funding and acquiring the needed items.

An immediate need is to drill another well. The well we financed last year is used constantly, which supplies water for thousands of people. Women walk for hours at all hours of the day and night to draw water from the well.

Kim and a team will return to South Sudan at the end of October 2008. The goal is to raise another $100,000 before they depart in order to continue building the next phase of the project. This will be a kindergarten/primary school for the children of the area. Presently there are NO schools for this community. They have all been destroyed in the war. Training of leaders is a primary focus for Fe Viva World Missions. Materials and supplies are in great demand. English is the language of education. Writing materials and school supplies can be loaded and transported by container.

We continue to seek partners who will join with us to affect positive growth and change in the nation of Sudan. The open doors given to us by the governor and tribal elders is evidence of their desire to work together for the benefit of their communities and the nation.

Thank you for your continued support and prayers as we endeavor to make a difference and build a legacy that changes lives.

Mighty blessings to all!

Kim and Lynn Weiler
